FLORALS

My work is about finding pause in fleeting moments and losing oneself in an experience that creates a positive emotion. This can be achieved by entering the flow state. I believe that full immersion in nature is an exceptional way to find flow, free the mind of stress, and make room for satisfying feelings of serenity.

I aim to provoke this experience in my paintings by placing a focus on some of the human senses that are affected by nature. Sweeping brushstrokes and applications of thick, thin, glossy, and matte oil paint add tactility and stimulation to the sense of touch. The sense of sight is affected by the use of my various color palettes. I’m fascinated by the remarkable ability color can have on human emotion, therefore, my love of color harmony leads me to continual experimentation. The sense of smell can be imagined when looking at my florals. One might even think that the popular saying “Stop and smell the roses”, is not lost in my work. This common saying holds validity and importance here, particularly the moment we make the conscious choice to stop what we’re doing and seek out the beneficial effects of engaging in the flow state.
